1．Common faults and treatment of Colortrac 4 Series Scanners (3640e, 3680e, 4260e, 4280e, 5480e)

1-1  Why the systerm cannot find the scanner?

   A: Generally , the fault is the scanner has a bad contact with host; the solution is as follows:

  1, check the FireWire card driver is installed;

 2, replace FireWire card slot, or replace FireWire card and line;

 3, replace interface modes from FireWire to the scsi interface.

 1-2, Why the system can find the scanner but the software cannot?

   A:Generally, it is the scanner software's faults . Try to re-install the software.

 1-3, Why the images stops showing and the scanner stops scanning, but the green light keeps flashing?

 A:Generally, It is caused by host's speed, or the conflicts of Firewire card and host . Solution: try to replace the host or FireWire card of the scaaner. There maybe also a system problem. Solution: re-install the system. 

 1-4, Why drawings are askew when the scanner is scanning?

   A: The main reason is the pressure of the scanner's pressboard is uneven. The solution is as follows:

 1, firstly, confirm the pressure on both sides is identical; then, open the scanner to check the fixed bolt in the card slot .

 2, adjust to the pressure of pressboard: adjust the pressure of pressboard to 6mm,  then pull out both sides of the fixed bolt and rotate 90 degrees to dismount the pressboard from the scanner; loose the four height-adjustable gasket screws, then, keeping both sides the same, rise the gasket 1mm

1-5, Why does the scanner jam?

 Answer: the pressure of the scanner maybe too strong or the scanner 's paper guide membrane has  problems, the solution is as follows:

 1, reduce the pressure of the scanner

 2, remove the scanner pressboard to check if there are install paper guide membrane.

 3, cut off part of the upwarp with a knife if the paper guide membrane is upwarp

1-6: Why is the scanner's initialized lights often flicker at boot time but the fluorescent tubes can  light?

 A: There are two kinds of possibilities: too dirty for the lens and scanners within the poor contact. The solution is:

 1, excessive dust may result in the scanner's lens can not be initialized, you can first open the scanner front baffle, and clean the scanner lens with lens paper and alcohol.

 2, the looseness of the scanners and motherboards' data lines effects the initialization of the scanner's lens; open baffle on the left side of the scanner, find jp1, jp2, jp3 data interface below the mainboard, pull down the data cable then plug it in again, while re-plug the power and the inverter.

2．Evolution Series Scanner Troubleshooting and handling

 2-1, Why the system cannot find the scanner ?

A: It may be for the following cases: 1, the system can not be compatible with the software; 2, SCSI card has a bad contact with motherboard; 3, SCSI-line has a bad contact; 4, motherboard chip is loose; 5, motherboard has faults

Solution : 1, check whether the software support the system (win2000 and winxp need to install the  scansmith7.0 version software and system patch; 2, re-install the SCSI card to check the SCSI card driver is correctly installed; 3, check the SCSI cable is connected correctly, SCSI interface pin is broken or skewed; 4, try to re-plug the scanner board lines, check whether the scanner motherboard chips are loose; try to replace the motherboard.

 2-2, Why the system can find a scanner and can start the scanning software, but connot normally scan?

 A: It may be the software errors include errors for the calibration file or software errors to set parameters. Solution : select 'Set Defaultthe' under scanning software FILE menu; then attempt to re-initialize the scanner

 2-3, Why the image size is stretched or compressed?

 A:  the accuracy of the scanner has problem;  method: establish 'diag.txt' documents under the 'suit' folder in 'Scansmith' the installation directory , access to diagnostic procedures and regulate sfact parameters. Rules: size is too large, the parameter to the small regulation; size too small, the parameter to the big adjustment. Attention: the last two-digit can be adjusted

 2-4, Why the drawing scanned has the black interference lines?

 A: Maybe the scan head has a dead pixel, or the scan head has dust. If the problem is the first case , repairing the scan head is needed; if it is the second, cleaning the scan head is needed. Methods: open the scanner cover , remove the scan head and clean imaging area with an alcohol .

 2-5,Why the drawings scanned have not content?

 A: the plug of the Scanner has a bad contact; just re-plugging will be ok
